ABOUT THE TRIO

The Dale Melton Trio is a tasty sonic and rhythmic stew of New Orleans funk and soulful New York jazz blended with early rock, blues and bossa nova and influenced by the likes of Mose Allison, Allen Toussaint, Taj Mahal, Boz Skaggs, Dr. John, Michael Franks and Lyle Lovett. Throw in Dale’s one-of-a-kind Hammond organ style and punch the rhythm piano along with his "it's never the same twice" delivery and everything takes on a unique twist. On drums and upright bass are two of the region’s finest musicians Jonathan W. Whitney and Sam Nobles respectively who are on every nuance of this spontaneous musical journey. Along with several original compositions Dale's forte is his ability to foster unique interpretations of songs he has invested his heart and soul in as he stretches out on vintage keyboards including Hammond organ, Rhodes piano, Wurli, DX7 and grand piano. Drummer Whitney says Dale sings like he plays, smooth to biting, delicate to griitty, sultry to bold with phrasing that surprises.

Among numerous creative ensembles Dale has been a key part of the Lili Anel Band as keyboardist and co-producer and the Melton Brothers Band including at times with Alfie Moss resulting in a world-wide collectors' LP "Livin' In The City". He has performed at the best venues in the greater Philadelphia area, Delaware and the Eastern Shore as well as renowned venues in New York City and from Vermont to Mississippi. He is a Delaware Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee.
